Upcoming Workshop Series: Engineering Graduate Attributes in Action
The Innovative Engineering Curriculum project team would like to invite you to our next workshop series for this semester, which will focus on practical strategies for integrating the new ECSA Graduate Attributes (GAs) into engineering curricula. Through case studies and real-world examples, these sessions will provide insights into how engineering educators can align teaching, learning, and assessment with the updated GAs.
We invite all staff members teaching on engineering programmes, as well as students, to join us for the 2025 IEC workshop series. Please sign up here: https://forms.gle/76RXw44x6Ke778mH9
You are also welcome to submit special requests or practices you have implemented on the form.
Workshop Series 7: Engineering Graduate Attributes in Action: Rethinking Practice & Impact
- 27 Feb: Understanding the New GAs (Online 12:30-14:00)
A comprehensive introduction to the new ECSA Graduate Attributes and what they mean for engineering education, assessment, and industry readiness. - 18 March: Problem-Solving & Professional Growth – GA 1, 10 & 11 (Online 12:30-14:00)
Exploring how problem-solving (GA 1), professionalism (GA 10), and project management & finance (GA 11) intersect to shape adaptable and industry-ready engineers. - 10 April: Knowledge, Learning & Collaboration – GA 2, 8 & 9 (Online 12:30-14:00)
Delving into how the application of scientific and engineering knowledge (GA 2), teamwork (GA 8), and independent learning (GA 9) contribute to well-rounded engineering graduates. - 20 May: Design, Investigation & Global Impact – GA 3, 4 & 7 (Online 12:30-14:00)
Examining the role of engineering design (GA 3), investigation & data analysis (GA 4), and broader societal and environmental responsibilities (GA 7). - 4 June: Tools for Engineering Success – GA 5 & 6 (Online 12:30-14:00)

Invitation: IRSPBL/SASEE/SoTL in the South Conference – Nov 2025
We are also pleased to invite you to participate in the 10th IRSPBL, 7th SASEE, and 5th SoTL in the South Conference, taking place from 17-21 November 2025 at Future Africa, University of Pretoria.
Under the theme “Anchoring Conversations: Connection, Collaboration, and Co-Creation for the Future,” this conference will provide a platform for educators, researchers, and industry professionals to engage in interdisciplinary discussions on problem-based learning, engineering education, and the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL).

Transformative Teaching in Engineering Education (TTEE) Pilot Programme
In addition to the workshop series, we are excited to share an update on the Transformative Teaching in Engineering Education (TTEE) initiative. This professional development programme, which launched in January and will run until September 2025, is designed to equip engineering educators with advanced teaching methodologies, leadership skills, and pedagogical strategies to drive curriculum transformation.
Currently, 13 of the 16 Engineering Schools in South Africa are represented in the pilot group, engaging in a structured training process that includes mentorship, collaboration, and capacity-building. The programme provides a sustainable framework for upskilling educators, ensuring that future graduates are better prepared for the complexities of engineering practice.
We encourage faculty members and students to participate and submit practice or research papers, workshop proposals, or join discussion panels.
We truly appreciate your support in sharing this information with your staff and students and hope to see strong participation from your institution.
SASEE is a proud partner on the IEC project
